Results After four years of positive, but purely anecdotal evidence, MEN has implemented the first of several evaluative instruments as the first step towards assessing all of its programs. Evaluations were designed and the results reviewed in partnership with the University of New Mexico Medical School and implemented in the 2008-2009 school year. The evaluations were administered by Fritz Hahn LMSW, our Director of Programs. Students in the In-School Mentorship and At-risk Teen Support Groups were evaluated for academic performance, anger management, communication skills, decision-making skills, and self-esteem. In a nutshell, the in-school mentees demonstrated a cumulative average improvement of 70% in the areas tested, while the at-risk teen groups scored 83%. This compares favorably with the 60% national average as reported by the Urban Institute (see Abstract). An abstract of the evaluations may be viewed as a pdf. |
